Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search tool is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email us, the message may be kept as needed to answer it. We do not share that correspondence outside our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal server and analytics logs may collect technical information when a page loads:
- Your device's Internet Protocol address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent
- The referring site, when supplied
- The date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure traffic, popular pages, and navigation patterns. Analytics vendors may aggregate that information. Browser controls can block cookies, although some features may then behave differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Operate, secure, and improve site performance
- Route a query to the selected search partner
- Understand which pages visitors use
- Diagnose errors and technical failures
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The site publishes general access information for records held by the Burke County Sheriff's Office, Burke Clerk of Superior Court, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, and North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search tools. Their privacy notices, retention practices, pricing, and sharing rules apply to information submitted to them. We do not control those practices. Review the provider's terms and privacy policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Burke County offices, North Carolina courts and agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy governs. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising partners may use their own technology to measure activity across websites or personalize advertisements. That processing occurs on their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Search providers processing a query submitted to their tool
- Analytics vendors measuring site use and performance
- Advertising networks serving ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies responding to valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for data under our control. No internet system can guarantee absolute security, however, and we cannot promise that a breach or interruption will never occur.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, we will take reasonable steps to remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may differ by residence and applicable law. North Carolina government record access is governed by the North Carolina Public Records Law, Chapter 132, while G.S. 132-1.4 sets specific rules for criminal-investigation and arrest information held by public agencies. Those government-record laws do not turn this private site into a public custodian. Subject to applicable privacy or consumer law, a visitor may:
- Ask what personal data we hold about them
- Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Ask for deletion where the law permits it
- Opt out of certain processing when a legal right applies
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as the site or governing requirements change. A revised policy will be posted here with its new effective date.
